Research Publications

- 2022, A cross sectional study of magnitude of diabetic retinopathy in outpatients presenting with cataract in a secondary care hospital

Patients with cataract most often have retinal pathology which may affect the visual prognosis and outcome following cataractsurgery.Diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration are both age dependent diseases of retina which manifest around the same age as cataract. Also, the occlusive diseases affect the patients in the senile cataract age group. This study was a Cross Sectional Study conducted in the Department of Ophthalmology, Govt Medical College Baramulla for a period of one and half years from January 2020 to June 2021

- 2021, A Hospital Based Prospective Study of Association betweenIntraocular Pressure and Myopia

Myopia or near-sightedness is a refractive error in which rays of incident light from infinity are focused in front of retina with accommodation being at rest .It is a condition in which close objects are seen clearly, but objects farther away appear blurred. Myopia occurs if the eyeball is too long or the cornea, the clear front cover of the eye, has too much curvature. As a result, the light entering the eye is not focused correctly and distant objects look blurred. This is an observational study done in the department of Ophthalmology over a period of 24 months. 278 eyes of 200 patients were included for the study

- 2021, Study of correlation of risk factors with sternness ofdiabetic retinopathy -

Diabetes mellitus is a complex metabolic disease caused by a variable interaction between hereditary and environmental factors. The clinical syndrome is defined by hyperglycaemia, microvascular abnormalities (retinal and renal) and neuropathy. The inclusion criteria for this study were: no previous treatment for theretinopathy such as photocoagulation, patients had to be older than 15 years and eyes with clearmedia to facilitate fundus examination and fundus photography. All diabetic patients meeting the inclusion criteria were enrolled at the Govt Medical College,Baramulla

- 2018, Conjunctival Auto transplantation in Pterygium Excision Using a releasable three suture technique: a Follow-up Study of 100 Cases

The study was conducted in District Hospital Baramulla from January 1, 2015, to December 31, 2016. It was a post-operative interventional study. In this study, 100 eyes of 100 patients with primary nasal pterygium were operated, 65 males and 35 females. Simple excision under local anesthesia was performed followed by closure of bare sclera by conjunctival autograft. The conjuctival autograft was sutured by three releasable (10-0 Nylon) sutures, single pass three throw loop knot with long ends, one each at upper and lower limbal corner, third one at middle of graft on nasal side. The three surtures were removed on third postoperative day by pulling the long end of the knot.

- 2018, Trabeculectomy: A Follow-up Study of 120 Cases in Terms of Intraocular Pressure

The aim of the study was to access the efficacy of conventional trabeculectomy in lowering the intraocular pressure (IOP) in various types of glaucoma. A clinical evaluation of trabeculectomy was done in 120 cases of different types of glaucoma. 60 were primary open-angle glaucoma, 13 were primary angle closure glaucoma, 42 were exfoliation glaucoma, and five were steroid-induced glaucoma. Patients were operated by conventional trabeculectomy and followed up for 6 months.Statistically there was highly significant reduction from mean pre operative level (36.12 ± 10.84) to last postoperative IOP (14.7 ± 3.17). Average postoperative IOP fall at 06 months from initial value was 21.42 mm Hg (59.3%).
